Hey guys... So yeah, I've just woken up at midnight, possibly because I sat through 4 hours of screenings today after like 2 hours of sleep the previous day. The screenings were of all the first year short films from the second semester. I must say that some of them were shockingly awful, I mean reeeally bad. There were a few a that were really nicely shot (i.e. kudos to the director of photography) but had no substance, no intelligible story; and then there were some that were just plain bad, badly scripted, badly shot, badly acted and badly edited. It just felt like some people hadn't put in any effort, they just filmed at the Halls of Residence instead of finding a location that not everybody would recognise, one film even used the bag that the Canon XL1s come in as a prop.

Saying that though, there were some quite good ones, some really stand out ones. There was one that really made me giggle: it was set-up as a solid gangster film at first, introducing the characters a la Reservoir Dogs opening credits and then the title flashes up, 'Gotta Catch 'Em All'. Immediately I started with the giggles because I knew what was going to be coming, but that's what made it funny: to see how they pulled off the blend of seriousness and comedy. There were a couple of other really good ones, but too many people in forests, and too much cocaine, prevailing themes apparently. It seemed like every other films involved drugs or people being killed in the woods. But ho hum. There were some really original ones, and props to all of the cast and crew of those films.

Oh, and if you want to watch the film that I worked on then you can see it here. :)

That is all... Carry on...
